(November 11, 2025) We pride ourselves on hearing vast amounts of soul music artists, but we are still humbled by the amount of sheer talent around the world that we don’t hear. Today’s discovery is London-based five-piece band, The Foo Birds, who enter our consciousness with the bluesy new single, “Turnin’.”
Consisting of keyboardist Alex Hill, guitarist Dan Abrahams, bass guitarist Charlie Nash, drummer Joe Shaw and saxman Theo Jobst, and fronted by vocalist Kate Lister, The Foo Birds have delivered a southern soul jam worthy of 1970 Memphis.
Producer Chris Hyson (Jordan Rakei, Frida Touray) helps create a smooth vibe on the single, which is brilliant in its understatement – it captures a classic soul aura without the self-reverential flashing lights of so many other retro songs. And Lister’s deep vocals are captivatingly relaxed, bringing the whole song to a wonderful place.
We’re digging “Turnin’,” and we think SoulTrackers will too. Check it out below.
