(September 12, 2024) From the age of 9, Evan Hannah had plenty to say regarding day-to-day life. With a mentor by his side and investing in prolific music programs throughout his home state of Virginia, this singer/music educator was ready to extend his zealous thoughts.
Hannah cites The Boys Choir of Hampton Roads and The Norfolk State University Summer Music Clinic as major contributors in his community work for the Black Arts. And his maturation through the songwriting process is evidenced by several recorded works, including a 2015 EP, The Morning, journalizing mental therapy sessions through contemporary R&B flavored soundtracks.
Almost one decade later, Hannah remains locked in his vision of unapologetic emotions behind the stage. On his latest effort, Hannah releases a 2-side single. First Listen introduces Hannah with the A-Side, “Overwhelmed.” This brief, put deeply delicate piece maps a lover’s thoughts with regards to a relationship headed in the wrong direction. And Hannah’s articulate tenor grabs the ears immediately as he examines his vulnerability: “Cause I’ve been feeling overwhelmed/Broken-hearted/Scared and lost/ Since we departed.”
“Overwhelmed” is co-composed by Jonathan Hull, whose production of keyboards and percussion permits Hannah to share his reality show without the fluff. Though he possesses a voice that echoes R&B superstar Ne-Yo, Hannah does not rely on hitmaking to prove his genuine artistic intentions. Take a listen!
