First Listen:  Eryn Allen Kane  Stuns with her “Piano Song” on TV’s “Being Mary Jane”

Gabrielle Union is reason enough to watch BET’s “Being Mary Jane” on a regular basis.   Her turn as “Mary Jane Paul” makes abundantly clear that she’s one of the gifted actors of her generation, and were the show on a major network, you would be hearing much more in the media about her acting, I’m sure.  But there’s a reason beyond Gabby to watch the show: Its soundtrack, which typically includes a delightful mix of established and new R&B artists.

Which brings me to Eryn Allen Kane. Eryn is a new artist whose track “Piano Song” closed episode 5 on the show this season.  I was alerted to it by SoulTracks’ Music Editor L. Michael Gipson, who is usually not given to exclaiming, in my experience, but he did so then, and with good reason.  It’s that voice. Eryn has one of those soulful, expressive voices that melts like warm butter on the song as it builds from a gentle piano ballad to a bigger, brash anthem of sorts with added horns, percussion, and a choir of backup vocalists. Have a listen. We’re looking forward to hearing more from Eryn and suspect you’ll feel the same.
