(September 26, 2024) Have you ever doubted yourself? It’s safe to say we all have because we’re human. Doubt is a faceless feeling that can freeze us in our tracks; it may move us to make a U-turn before completing something great, not because of a legitimate obstacle but because of questions that doubt can bring up inside of us.
If you could have a conversation with doubt, what would you say? Well, Eric Roberson (or, Erro) – who is widely regarded as the “King of Independent Soul/R&B” – addresses that negative feeling on his new single, “Doubt (Can You Come Back Some Other Time).”
Unlike the Billie Holiday song “Good Morning Heartache,” where she invites heartache to sit down because it keeps showing up, Erro dismisses doubt from his presence. Ever so politely, he asks it to come back later because, as he sings, “I’m enjoying what I’m exploring, and I want to feel good.” In other words, he’s telling doubt: ‘Look, I’m in the middle of something good and I can’t let you mess this up for me like you’ve done before.’
This conversational and relatable song – which has a mellow, acoustic vibe – comes from Erro’s own experience. He said he addresses doubt directly whenever it enters his mind during the creative process; doing so helps him overcome it. Erro revealed: “During my most challenging times this year, [Doubt] has been the song I have turned to the most.”
“Doubt” (Can You Come Back Some Other Time)”is yet another example of the thought-provoking music that Erro creates to connect with his listeners on the deepest level; he’s been celebrating that genuine connection on his 30th anniversary tour this year. Hear Erro’s new tune below.
