(April 28, 2021) There’s no doubt that Eric “EQ” Young knows how to get funky. With a slap bass technique inspired by the great Larry Graham and performed by with some of the funkiest artists alive from George Clinton and Parliament to The Bar-Kays, the Bay Area-raised musician has amassed a great following of fans. Young has also garnered lots of attention from YouTube-uploaded footage of his work with veteran funk band ConFunkShun, which he’s been a part of for over two decades. But Young can surely slow things down for a dreamy love ballad, which he proves on his latest solo single.
On “All We Need Is Love,” Young gets into crooner mode as he tugs on the heartstrings in his campaign for “just a little bit more love for you and me.” As the song floats forward with its dreamy sequence of synth strings and romantic harmonies, Young powers through a flood of emotions in his fight for love. The song can easily be interpreted as a 1-on-1 love song or a lyrical compass towards enlightenment. In response to the song’s ambiguity, Young points to a higher goal: “When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.”
Check out the new single and let us know if you’re feeling the love.
