(May 31, 2018) Emay Holmes has a unique story. By day he launches F-18 fighter jets from the flight deck of USS Nimitz and at night he takes his maple-topped Martin acoustic into ‘a rusty little corner of the boat’ to craft a unique brand of heart wrenching soul music. He hit our consciousness with his debut single, “The Deployment Song”, and its virally successful. His deployment aboard USS Nimitz took Emay across the globe took him away from the studio for a large part of the following months, but now he’s back on firm land and excited to release his debut EP, Deep Down, which debuts tomorrow, June 1.
The EP is stunning in its raw, acoustic sound and lyrics that often deal with the feelings of isolation and longing that factor into the challenging emotional toll of his career. His distinctive acoustic picking style on his guitar is the backdrop for his plaintive vocals, which at times recall Anthony Hamilton.
