(March 11, 2020) Eddie Floyd is a true soul music legend. One of the stars of Stax Records, he jumped to the top of the charts with his signature hit, “Knock On Wood,” and established quite a career for himself a full half century ago.
It has been more than a decade since we heard from Eddie Floyd, now in his 80s, and we miss his soulful, expressive voice. We have a treat this week, as Rock House Records has issued “Guess It Wasn’t Meant To Be,” a song written four decades ago by Roy Roberts, the one time guitarist in Otis Redding’s band, and recorded in the legendary Stax Records studios with the house band.
The excellent ballad languished for years, and now is getting the widespread release that it deserves. Check it out below and recall with us the greatness of Eddie Floyd.
