First Listen: Country meets Prince on “Purple Rain” remake

(September 17, 2016) There has always been an interesting connection between R&B and Country music, a sort of ying and yang that has connected the two genres for more than a half century. But country music legend Dwight Yoakam has taken that connection on head on with his new remake of the classic Prince song, “Purple Rain,” turning it into a out and out bluegrass ballad.

Now I will confess to being a fan of both “Purple Rain” and of Yoakam, but I never quite pictured them going together. Surprisingly, it all works — at least I think so. But you may not agree. Check out this remake and tell us what you think!
