Live Performance: Donnie McClurkin says it will be “Better Afterwhile”

(October 22, 2025) It’s hard to believe that Donnie McClurkin hasn’t given the world a new song as a solo artist in a while. McClurkin collaborated with VaShawn Mitchell on the 2023 chart topper “See The Goodness,” but his new song “Better Afterwhile” is the first time fans have heard that spirit filled baritone on a solo effort since before the pandemic.

“Better Afterwhile” is an inspirational and upbeat song that delivers a message that’s necessary today when things are very tough. That message that calls on people to dig deep into their wells of faith is trademark McClurkin. “Better Afterwhile” finds McClurkin giving his fans musical guidance that is derived from the book of Psalms. Tough times don’t last, but spiritually tough and faith filled people are built to last.

McClurkin wrote the song, which was produced by Tre’ Corley of Oak Tree Productions, and said that he realized that “Better Afterwhile” had a timely and timeless message: “It’s been a long time since I’ve released new music, but this song spoke to me. ‘Better Afterwhile’ is a reminder that no matter what we go through, the struggles, the heartbreak, the loss; things will get better in time. My prayer is that this song encourages people to keep moving forward and trust that joy is on the other side.”
