First Listen: Dominick Shelton finds a “Rocket Love”

dominickshelton

Detroit native Dominick Shelton has some big influences and even bigger goals. Those influences range from Motown greats such as Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, artists who fuse soul and hip-hop such as Lauryn Hill and performers who star across genres such as Frank Sinatra and The Police. “I want to be more involved with music,” Shelton said. “Definitely writing for some major artist and some scores, a TV show and some other ventures.”

Right now, the multi-instrumentalist seeks make a mark as a solo artist after working around the Motor City as an arranger, songwriter, pianist and performer. Shelton provides fans with a glimpse of his husky baritone and arrangements that range of synth driven funk to jazz inspired piano on the single “Rocket Love.” That title definitely brings to mind classic Stevie to a generation of soul music fans, but Shelton’s tune inhabits its own space in terms of arrangement and thematically. Press play and hear for yourself.
