(September 9, 2021) “Chocolate,” the new cut by mixologist and producer DJ Jean Maron is more proof that funk has a lot of life remaining in its legs. “Chocolate” is a tune that find DJ Jean Maron putting his spin on that story of a guy trying to break through all the distractions in a club and be the one that catches the eye and arm of the mocha beauty that has everyone taking notice.

Maron is a DJ and that means he can come at the music as a fan, musician, songwriter, producer, and historian. And in a little less than four minutes, Maron takes listeners on a musical trip that begins with the talk box funk of Zapp and a sound 1980s that epitomizes era synthesized funk. The vocals have that old fashioned wit and wink/nod sensuality driven by the energetic vocal of Marcus Hall while the arrangements sport a steppers set bass line.

There’s a little bit of Roger in this joint, as well as a bit of Bruno Mars. It adds up to a whole bunch of fun. Check out “Chocolate” here.
