First Listen: Diana Ross returns with a “Sunshine-y” dance gem

(May 30, 2022) Last year, the music world was graced with the legendary Diana Ross’s first new music in 15 years, as she released the single “Thank You,” followed a few months later by an album of the same name.

Well, it didn’t take long for Ms. Ross to follow up that release with more new music. “Turn Up The Sunshine” is her collaboration with popular producer Tame Impala (Kevin Parker), and is a sneak peek at the soundtrack from this year’s movie installment of the Minions franchise, Minions: The Rise of Gru. The album includes several covers of 70s hits by modern artists, including “Fly Like An Eagle,” “Hollywood Swinging” and “Shining Star,” as well as new material.

“Turn Up The Sunshine” is a bouncy number that should get the millions of kid Minion fans bopping around the room, and their parents should enjoy it, too. With a decidedly 70s vibe, it highlights Ross’s somewhat deeper but still gorgeous tones. This may be one of the songs of Summer 2022. Check it out below and welcome Diana Ross back to SoulTracks.
