(December 21, 2021) We were happy to inform you some months ago that legendary Philly Soul songwriter and keyboardist Dexter Wansel released a new album entitled The Story of the Flight Crew To Mars.  (Wansel composed hits like “Nights Over Egypt” by the Jones Girls, “Hurry Up This Way Again” by the Stylistics, and “If Only You Knew” by Patti LaBelle and had his own solid recording career.)

If you’re curious about the meaning behind Mr. Wansel’s latest album, he explained: “It’s about a cruise ship over 200 years from now that’s headed to Mars. The cruise ship is called ‘The Mars Eclipse.’”

Our newest First Listen is the latest single from that project entitled “As One.”  The single, which has been declared “an instant hit,” talks about self-reliance and people coming together.

Believe in yourself when fate lets you down
‘Cause the world is a place where magic and rhyme come together as one
And as one, we’ll make a stand
As one, this moment will never end if we begin as one.

Wansel, who wrote and produced the piano-driven “As One”, had another Dexter provide the vocals – Terry Dexter.  Detroit-born Terry Dexter is a seasoned artist whose voice and songwriting have been featured on music releases by the likes of Patti Labelle, Eric Benet, and Michael McDonald, as well as her own albums. Wansel’s calming instrumentation and Terry’s beautiful vocals blend very nicely.

Terry said she was “super excited” to be featured on “As One”, and you can sense her excitement and Wansel’s in the music video, which shows both of them performing the song live in studio.  So, take a ride on ‘The Mars Eclipse’ cruise ship with the Dexters and let yourself become “as one” with their sound.
