(November 10, 2021) Back in 2019, we introduced you to the new-look Detroit Emeralds, which had been assembled by the group’s founding member, writer, and lead vocalist, James Mitchell, Jr.

Mitchell and his original bandmates initially rose to fame in the 1970’s with a streak of R&B hits including their best-known recording, “Feel the Need in Me.”  Fast forward many years later, Mitchell – wanting to keep the legacy of the group alive and well – personally selected three new Emeralds to sing with him who are established artists themselves: Lavel “Vel” Jackson, Eddie Cameron, and Dewayne “Loc” Lomax.

The group has been working on five new tracks that will form an EP, and “Face 2 Face” is their latest single. Written by legendary Detroit bassist and producer Jerome Rimson, “Face 2 Face” has a head-nodding beat, nice harmonies, and includes a brief rap but is a surefire groove that’s fresh yet classic.

Although the song is about getting to know a lady better, it has an even deeper meaning. According to their management – MCM Global Team – the theme of the song can be best described as: “From Virtual to Face 2 Face” because “instead of virtual meetings in lockdown, people can now meet up again Face 2 Face.”
