(October 13, 2023) Singer/songwriter Dessy Di Lauro brings a myriad of cultural references to the table whenever she makes music. She is a French-Canadian native of Montreal. She is also of Brazilian, Cuban, and Italian lineage. She’s studied jazz, grew up listening to R&B music and performed with Cirque du Soleil.
Di Lauro infuses those influences and more into her music. She’s incorporated the jumping, hep cat swing of Cab Calloway into songs like “Why You Raggin’” and put her Brazilian influences in the forefront on the bossa nova meets R&B cut “When You Need Me.”
Her new cut, “The Light” has a definite afrobeat vibe. The song is inspirational number that finds Di Lauro using her sweet vocals to honor someone who played a positive role in her life and who is a constant and uplifting presence in the good and bad times. The song is an upbeat reminder of the life-changing impact that positivity, encouragement and having a person can have in anyone’s life. Check out Dessy Di Lauro’s “The Light” here.
