(September 24, 2021) One of the true musical darlings in the 1970s and 80s, Deniece Williams brought her crystalline soprano voice and her underrated songwriting skills to the R&B world, topping the charts with such diverse, irresistible songs as “Silly,” “Black Butterfly” and countless other gems. She then followed with an equally impressive Gospel career that helped establish her as one of the great voices of her generation.
We received a pleasant surprise last year when Niecy released “When You Love Somebody,” her first new single in years, and now we get the rest of the package via her brand new independently released EP, Gemini. The 5-song collection is a reminder of what’s so special about this unique vocalist, and nowhere is it more evident than on the gentle ballad, “One Kiss.” Co-written by Williams with Harvey Mason and Harvey Mason, Jr., “One Kiss” describes the power of early love, and of the touch of new romance
One kiss can change forever
One touch can dry your tears
Gotta wish for my tomorrow
A shining knight will appear
Niecy sounds as good as ever, and the song is a gentle entry that should entrance her longtime fans. Check it out below, and welcome back the legend with us.
