The funky Australian band Deep Street Soul is a group to watch. They’ve been winning fans around the world and now they’re getting ready to unleash their studio album on London’s Freestyle Records.
Deep Street Soul swims at the grittiest end of the hard funk pool, and the band has delivered two extremely tough and uncompromising slabs of raw funk & soul. And they’re getting us ready for their third album, Come Alive!, with a single that showcases their tight playing and the powerful lead vocals of Mighty May. “Soul Comes Alive” leaps from the speakers with Monique Boggia’s electric piano intro, and the blistering horns in behind May Johnson’s simply exemplary singing. The song’s catchy appeal will be lost on no one with an ear for genuine organic 21st century soul music.
Mighty May Johnson tell us about the song: When I wrote the lyrics to this song 2 years ago, I was going through a huge life change. I’d lost nearly everything and was feeling at my lowest ebb, but I knew that If I picked myself up and pushed through everything would eventually be ok. Have to say that without the band…their creativeness and musicality…this song would not be what it is. I can’t wait to share the album with everyone. Love & good vibes!
