First Listen: Deborah Cox gives us the “World”

(July 11, 2017) Nearly 20 years ago, prominent remixer Hex Hector put a dynamic dance floor spin on Deborah Cox’s striking smash ballad, “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here.” While Cox has scored a number of successes in multiple genres since, that remix unarguably elevated her to prime dance-diva status, with subsequent singles like “Absolutely Not,” “Mr. Lonely,” and “If It Wasn’t for Love” securing her position as a favorite in clubs across the world.

While the versatile songstress has focused most of her attention lately on a starring role in the Whitney Houston stage biopic, The Bodyguard (see our review of the accompanying CD), she recently stepped into the recording booth to deliver another fine dance gem, “Let the World Be Ours Tonight.” Helmed by UK production team Soulshakers, the spirited number pulsates with a vibrant melody and message of hope. While it might not break any new musical ground, it’s a well-conceived number that allows Cox the platform to flex her vocal muscles quite nicely. Check it out below and let us know what you think!
