(September 24, 2025) Debórah Bond has been a leader in the indie soul world for more than two decades, and the DC-based singer-songwriter has continued to expand her musical footprint with creative new releases touching on pop, jazz, R&B and dance styles.
For her latest single, Bond captures the vibe of early 80s radio, with a performance that bears the sophistication of that era’s L.A.-based pop and soul. “The Same” is a lush and luscious entry into Bond’s discography, and sounds like little else in 2025.
She tells us, “I had fun writing this one, choosing to keep the lyrics playful and connecting them to the previous new singles with themes of golden light and nostalgia. I wanted the song to start light, airy, and sexy, with a bit of mystery—but then build into a powerful key change that opens the track up with strings and full vocals. It’s about tension and release, intimacy expanding into something magical and uplifting.”
Working with an all-star band consisting of Derrick McKenzie (drums), João Caetano (percussion), Morgan Burrs (guitar), vocalist Gareth Donkin, and a string quartet, Bond has created a song that could have been a hit four decades ago, but sounds absolutely fresh now. Check out “The Same” below.
