(August 3, 2025) Singer/songwriter and SoulTracks favorite Debórah Bond created her latest single, “Amber Dust,” as an homage and dedication to the late, great vibe master Roy Ayers. Ayers was an artist who covered a lot of artistic ground. His music encompassed jazz, soul, funk, with African infused rhythms serving as the connective tissue.
“Amber Dust” has that same creative energy. The percussion and bouncing bass lines that introduce “Amber Dust” fuse go-go and Caribbean rhythms before smoothing out into a funk groove infused with a stepper’s set vibe.
The vocal arrangement is classic Ayers. Bond fronts the vocals while the backing vocals have the passion and tightness of a church chorus. Lyrically, “Amber Dust” is a visual treat that will bring back to memories summer nights of cruising down the street listening to music that filled you with love, joy, and pride. Those are the emotions that the music of Roy Ayers made people feel, and with “Amber Dust” Debórah Bond resurrects them for old school fans while introducing them to a new generation.
