(October 13, 2021) The state of Ohio can rightly claim that it is the capitol of funk music, and not just because the Dayton is the home of the Funk Music Hall of Fame and Exhibition Center. The Hall calls Ohio its home because of the number of funk acts that call The Buckeye state home. An incomplete list of Ohio based funk acts includes The Isley Brothers, The Ohio Players, Zapp, Lakeside, and the Dazz Band.
All those bands have been putting down the funk for more than four decades and they continue to work. That includes the Dazz Band, a group that epitomized the funk and energetic funk of the early and mid-1980s. The Dazz Band has released a new Roshere Mix of a classic track called “Do Poppa Do.” It is a mid-tempo number that fuses funk with a laid back vibe that would fit in nicely at a steppers set.
“Do Poppa Do” is a song the celebrates a man taking some time to whisk his lady away from the grind and put all of his attention on her. “Do Poppa Do” also finds The Dazz Band working with another funk legend, in this case, Mr. Star Child and Uncle Jam himself – George Clinton. It’s a bit of a departure for The Dazz Band, a group that found most of its commercial success with up-tempo hits like “Let It Whip” and ballads such as “Knock, Knock,” but “Do Poppa Do” reveals group as one that’s still here for the party. Check out the Roshere Mix of “Do Poppa Do” here.
