(May 3, 2018) David Bray is known as a storyteller, and that talent has made him one of Canada’s leading leading songwriters. After years of writing for others, David is focusing on his own career with trilogy of albums. The first, Night Rains, became an international hit. Now he has released his sophomore disc, Crowded Isolation, a thematic album on the urban life. And he’s brought along a bevy of musical greats, including Motown legend Bob Babbitt, Garth Hudson of the Band, Colin Linden, Jeff Healey, Daniel Lanois, Richard Bell, Gary Craig, Justin Abedin and more. Bray wrote, produced and performed the album helped by some outstanding vocalists, most notably his long time musical partner, Lorraine Reid.
The first single from the album is the title cut, a song with a soulful 90s groove to it and great vocals by Reid. Bray tells us “The lyrics are a very important part of ‘Crowded Isolation’ (both the single and the album) in addition to the musical hooks. It is my deeply personal perspective on the challenges of urban life. I wrote and produced this album with the help of some renowned musical friends (including one of Motown’s original Funk Brothers) and some outstanding new vocalists. While I have worked to make Crowded Isolation sound contemporary and fresh, you will definitely hear echoes of original Motown, R&B and Soul which are so important to me.“
