Chuckii Booker joins Darnell White on Marvin Gaye throwback

(August 1, 2016) Darnell White has experience in being connected with R&B royalty having served as writer, arranger and composer for Barry White. On his new single, “Mr. Marvin,” White and veteran R&B vocalist, writer and producer Chuckii Booker honor another 1970s soul music icon, Marvin Gaye.

The tune sports an arrangement that features an echoing percussion and a smooth bass line that references Marvin Gaye’s prophetic What’s Going On album. White brings his signature flute playing to the fore where it shares space with Booker’s Gaye-inspired vocals.

White says that the retro vibe is definitely intentional. ”Marvin Gaye is one of my favorite all time songwriters. I wanted to pay tribute to this classic singer.  I also wanted to put classic soul music back in the mix and do a throwback to the ’70’s.  Chuckii Booker and I came up with ‘Mr Marvin’ and we hope people enjoy this song.
