(August 1, 2020) For those of us who believe that Philadelphia soul of the 1970s and 80s was one of the greatest music periods ever, Cynthia Biggs El is a type of musical royalty. As a songwriter for many of the great songs of Patti LaBelle, The O’Jays, The Stylistics and The Jones Girls, among others – often as part of the legendary songwriting team with Dexter Wansel – Biggs created classic after classic over a two decade period.
We haven’t heard new music from Cynthia in awhile, but she is back with a song for our times. “There Are No Differences” is the simple, forthright plea about the importance and value of every life, and how, in the end, we all need each other. Cynthia wrote it in 2000 with schoolteacher Laura Barletta, and a few years later she brought in nother legend, Shirley Jones of The Jones Girls, to help vocalize the beautiful lyrical message. As the sole remaining member of one of our favorite trios, Shirley Jones has continued over the years to grace audiences with regular new music, and on this song she sounds as fantastic as ever.
Cynthia has now released the song from the vaults with an accompanying music video. We think SoulTrackers are going to love them both. Check out the video below and tell us what you think.
