First Listen: Corneille returns with updated Sade gem

corneille

(March 12, 2018) Already established as an international star for his albums sung in French, a decade ago Corneille Nyungura, known simply as Corneille, came to America with the autobiographical The Birth of Cornelius, a fantastic album that blended cultures and languages into a soulful stew that we raved about. Unfortunately, the album didn’t take off, and Corneille stopped releasing new music in the US.

Ironically, this weekend, as we were celebrating the return of Sade through her first new song in eight years, we also we heard the return of Corneille via a tribute to Sade in a cover of her first big hit, “Smooth Operator.”

Corneille’s take on the song is a contemporary blend of island and electronic, bringing a fresh new look at an all-time favorite. Both he and the song sound fantastic .

Check out a very enjoyable video of “Smooth Operator” and welcome back Corneille to SoulTracks
