(October 7, 2025) One rainy day while driving home, I decided to play as many ‘rain’ songs as I could think of. I listened to “I Wish It Would Rain,” “Here’s that Rainy Day,” and “I Can’t Stand the Rain,” among others. That impromptu playlist reminded me of how, through the years, rain has often been equated with pain in song; tears have been compared to rain, a sad situation has been compared to a rainy day, and so forth.
That said, when I heard Conya Doss’ new song “Mr. Rain,” I thought the title was a clever way to address a man who caused pain and heartache. Conya – who is a previous SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Award winner – sings in the chorus:
Goodbye, farewell, Mr. Rain
Don’t come back this way again
Gotta dry up all these tears
Pain you caused me all these years
You may hear a tear or two in the melody as Conya bids farewell to “Mr. Rain” and looks ahead to greener pastures. This new track is yet another vehicle for her smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics to shine, adding to her reign as the Queen of Indie Soul, having been a constant presence in independent music for over 20 years.
“Mr. Rain” is from Conya’s 10th solo project, Affirmations, which was released on September 15th. Her team describes the album as “a profound reflection of her life’s journey, encompassing her global travels and various life transitions.”
Check out “Mr. Rain” below. I’ll be adding this to my ‘Rainy Day’ playlist…
