(October 24, 2018) Although the highest charting hits of Christopher Williams’ three decades in the music business thus far have been smooth, uptempo grooves (“I’m Dreamin’,” “Every Little Thing U Do,” “Talk to Myself”), his albums have largely been composed of contemplative soul ballads. His ability to straddle vocal power and vulnerability was exemplified deftly on his oft-forgotten Not a Perfect Man set; and it’s a shame that his releases have been so few and far between since the turn of the millennium.
Williams’ new single, “Proud 2 Long,” finds him expertly applying his tried and true pipes to a confessional lyric which will resonate with many a young man who’s taken a devoted lady for granted then come to regret it deeply. Against a simple yet melodically rich track, he conjures the tender and passionate emotions of bittersweet hindsight with a gruff charm and authentic conviction that continues to set him apart from many contemporaries.
