First Listen: The great Christopher Williams returns with “Good Enough”

(November 19, 2025) Christopher Williams exploded on the music scene in the late 1980’s and early ‘90’s as a part of the thriving New Jack Swing sound at Uptown Records. He hit with giant radio smashes like “Talk to Myself” and the #1 R&B hit “I’m Dreamin’” from the New Jack City film soundtrack, in which he also starred.

With his dashing good looks, powerful baritone voice, and sultry belting so reminiscent of a next-gen Teddy Pendergrass, Williams blossomed into a solid crooner for the urban contemporary boudoirs on standout tracks like “Promises, Promises” and the DeVante Swing-produced, Jodeci-leaning “All I See.” But after the ‘90’s, much of Williams’ star faded from the public eye and from the charts. A series of health setbacks resulting from kidney failure, even a rumored coma, dominated the headlines. A TVOne Unsung episode about his career in 2020 forced the Bronx-born singer back into the spotlight, but no word on a possible return to the world of new music. Until now.

Today, Williams is back with a new song, starting yet an encouraging new chapter for his discography. Penned by Troy Taylor, TreVon Waters and John McGee, “Good Enough” finds Williams serenading a smooth midtempo gem borrowing melodic samples of Cherelle’s 1988 dreamy ballad “Everything I Miss at Home,” while also tracing the rhythmic swagger of Usher’s “U Remind Me.” Inside the Taylor/McGee-produced track, we hear the revived crooner effortlessly fighting his way back to a broken heart. “Hope my best is good enough, I don’t wanna lose your love,” he pleads on the soulful chorus.

The arrival of the new single via Streamline TransMedia also comes with the promise of more tracks to come, as Christopher Williams continues to work on his highly anticipated new album, War and Peace, his first LP in over two decades. With Vincent Herbert serving as executive producer and a trove of brilliant producers and writers including Troy Taylor, Bryan-Michael Cox and Reggie Burrell coming to the table, ardent fans of Williams are sure to embrace this news with open arms.

In a provided press release for the single, Williams opens up about his musical renaissance while expressing gratitude over these new career opportunities. “I’m excited to return to the music scene with new music – but more than that, I’m thankful and grateful to still be here, alive and well,” he says. “The past few years brought real health challenges, but through the grace of God, prayer and faith, I can say – Chris is here to stay. This is more than a comeback, it’s a revival.”
