(December 8, 2020) Gospel singer-songwriter Vashawn Mitchell has won many accolades over the last two decades for his inspiring work as a performer and composer. Preceding the release of a six-track holiday EP, Home for Christmas, he’s paired with veteran R&B chanteuse Chanté Moore for the lovely “Home with You.” A melancholy ode to the desire for love and kinship on the 25th of December, the classy mid-paced groove is embedded with a nostalgic chord structure and yearning melodies which capture the mixed emotions that this time of year can bring to those of us tied up in professional endeavors.
Mitchell’s vocal treatment of “Home with You” is convincingly vulnerable, while Moore’s deep-toned phrasing is equally affecting (save for a showy whistle register run on the outro which cheapens the mood). With a cozy and memorable hook to boot, the tune is likely to find a prime spot on many listeners’ holiday playlists for years to come.
