(November 14, 2025) “You’re The Melody,” the latest single from the legendary singing group Chairmen of the Board, is a tune that’s five years in the making. That’s when leader Ken Knox, who is group’s connection to the classic lineup that gave us hits such as “Give Me a Little More Time” and “Pay to the Piper,” received the song from UK producer Nigel Lowis.
Lowis thought the Chairmen of the Board was ideally suited to sing “You’re The Melody” because of the tune’s Motown influences and because Lowis co-wrote it with Lamont Dozier before the legendary songwriter’s passing in 2022.
“You’re The Melody” has that Motown feel from the drums that open the tune, to the honking saxophone flourishes, the funky and bouncy bass line and the interplay between Knox and members Thomas Hunter and Patrick McGuire. Each vocalist serves as lead singer on the one of the tune’s three verses, with the other two providing harmonic call-and-response when they are not leading.
Each man brings their individual flair to the time in the spotlight. Knox’s opens with his buttery and feathery vocal, while Hunter soars into the romantic stratosphere on the second verse and then McGuire takes us to the church of love when his assertive baritone brings it home. Check out the Chairmen of the Board taking us back to the era of romantic vocals and lush instrumental arrangements on “You’re The Melody” here.
