First Listen: Carol Riddick returns with tasty new single

(April 6, 2025) At the time of this writing, Women’s History Month 2025 is coming to an end, but the month has sparked discussions with various women about growth, healing and self-discovery.

If we were to create a soundtrack for such a discussion, there are several songs we could choose from, including the new single by Philly’s own Carol Riddick called “Gas Hard.”

This song, which Carol co-wrote and produced with five other creative minds, is smooth R&B with a message – “encouraging listeners to embrace their inner strength, shed insecurities, and break free from external validation.”  In the lyrics, the acclaimed songstress pulls back the curtain to tell us that she had to take time to do these things herself, letting go of traits that held her back in the process:

“No more walking ‘round close-minded, aiming to please
Overthinking everything didn’t look good on me”

Keeping with the imagery of travel, Carol addresses the need to stop looking in the rear-view mirror or switching lanes but focus on going “full speed ahead” in her brand-new drive, or outlook.

For anyone going through a period of self-discovery, it’s not hard to relate to what Carol is singing about – overcoming challenges to your progress and moving forward.  She is known to evoke emotion through her music, and this is another one of those occasions.

So, if you need some fuel to drive past a roadblock in life, go ahead and fill your tank with “Gas Hard” by Carol Riddick.  She hopes you’re moved to claim her new anthem as your own.  Check out the music video below.
