We’ve been following the career of singer-songwriter Carmen Rodgers for a decade. Her combination of intelligent lyrics and sense of melody — combined with her terrific vocal chops — made her an early SoulTracks fave. We’ve been waiting to hear more from her since her 2010 EP, The Bitter Suite, and now she is readying her long awaited full album, Stargazer, which will be released in early 2015.
Well, we simply can’t wait for the full release, so we’re pleased to give SoulTrackers a sneak peek with rhythmic, funky first single, “Heartless.” With an electronic underpinning and tight backing harmonies behind Carmen’s alway on point vocals, its a song that should get SoulTrackers noticing. Carmen tells us about the tune, “I loved writing this song with Deonis Cook. He is one of my favorite producers and an extraordinary vocalist in his own right. We had fun in the studio recording it and I hope that translates to the listeners ears.”
