First Listen: Camera Soul finds that “Shooting Star”

(August 3, 2023) For over ten years, the Italy-based five-piece band, CAMERA SOUL, has given its wide international fan base six albums worth of the most upbeat soul-funk-pop that could ever grace the R&B music world. Founded by Lombardo Brothers Productions (keyboardist Pippo Lombardo at the helm), Camera Soul’s releases have charted in the Top 5 in countries from Japan to the UK with their homeland and other territories in between.

The new single, “Shooting Star” (from Camera Soul’s upcoming seventh album, due this October), finds the band turning towards a more mellow soul/R&B direction. Featuring new lead singer, Sabreetha Vee, the track is indeed a mellow burner of a mid-tempo ballad with Ms. Vee’s vocals working quite nicely, both in with the male background vocals and on her own. As for the song itself, the band writes, “(“Shooting Star”) speaks of the expectations of rebirth that are often expressed in life and symbolically when on summer nights we turn our gaze to the sky and make a wish on a little magic…”

To this reviewer’s ears, the tune definitely shines both in arrangement and performance. Reminiscent of the classic soul period from the mid to late 1970’s, Camera Soul and Ms. Vee give “Shooting Star” their own unique spin that is indeed pleasant to the ears.

If the upcoming album contains a lineup of songs that have the shining hit potential of its first single, expect yet another winning release from Camera Soul. Well done, everyone.
