(September 7, 2026) Butch Tavares has been a favorite of soul music fans for over a half century. As the falsetto lead vocalist and choreographer of the iconic family group Tavares, Butch played a key role in a decade of top hits – and made Tavares the first act we ever covered on SoulTracks.
The past few years have been a difficult one for the Tavares family, as brothers Ralph, Pooch and Chubby have passed, but fortunately Butch has continued on, both with the group and also with an emerging solo career.
Butch has recently released a new single that harkens back to the days of classic, falsetto-led soul groups from Blue Magic to the Delfonics. “Maybe Just For Love” is the plea from a man, hoping that love can break through the difficulties that he and his woman are experiencing.
With a soaring falsetto that sounds as clear as ever, Tavares convincingly delivers the soulful ballad, both reminding us of The Golden Years of soul music and providing a gift of a great, late night song. Check it out below.
