May 10, 2026 — It’s hard not to love, as he does occasionally, when the gifted Bruno Mars leans completely and unabashedly into classic soul. A case in point is his new track “God Was Showing Off,” a smooth slice of Memphis soul with all the sonic fingerprints of that classic sound — a relaxed, deep-pocket groove, gospel-inflected lead and background vocals, and periodic horn punctuations.
What sets Bruno apart from most others is his ability to do it all: he’s a premier songwriter, a multi-instrumentalist, and a nuanced, sublime vocalist with a range that his contemporaries no doubt envy. You’ll hit repeat on this latest example of his talents, I promise. Enjoy.
