(June 15, 2023) Pianist Brian Simpson’s talent led him to catch the eyes of A-list talents in the contemporary jazz and R&B world. He’s played alongside Norman Brown and Gerald Albright, and he toured with Janet Jackson.
By the early 1990s, Simpson came to the attention of George Duke, and that led to a decade of doing tour and production, which then resulted in Simpson working with artists such as James Ingram, Anita Baker, Dave Koz and Wayman Tisdale. Those diverse influences can be heard in the work that Simpson has done as solo artist since his debut project It’s All Good dropped in 2005.
Simpson’s fluency in jazz improvisation and R&B can be heard on his new song, “See You Again,” from his upcoming album Soul Connection. Featuring vocalist Will Gaines, the tune is a breezy number that features a smooth R&B bass line which serves as the foundation for the intermittent vocal flourishes. The song should fit nicely on both contemporary jazz and adult soul radio playlists. Check out “See You Again” by pianist Brian Simpson here.
