(August 2, 2019) SoulTrackers may have first heard of drummer and producer Brandon Williams when we raved over his album XII a few years ago, but he has been a go-to performer for the greatest soul and jazz artists in the world for several years. And the Detroit native is now readying his long awaited second album, The Love Factor, due in September.
What better way to give a sneak peek of that album than through a collaboration with the King of Indie Soul, the great Eric Roberson. “Don’t Give Up On Love” is an irresistible midtempo stepper’s number, with a groove that goes on for day. It tells the real emotion of the hesitation that comes early in a relationship, and the assurance that following through will be worth it.
Brandon tells us, “As long as I’ve known Eric (close to 20 years), a lot of people are really surprised that we haven’t worked together before now, but I always say that things happen when and as they should. I crafted the track for this song specifically for his voice and pen some years ago and though he agreed to do, our schedules just didn’t seem to line up. It took a chance meeting with him and my father at the Berks Jazz Festival to get the ball rolling. I sent Eric the track and within a few days, the song was done. Eric is one of the best songwriters in the game, period, and I’m really glad that we finally had a chance to craft something for the world to hear.”
We just love this song and we think SoulTrackers will too. Check out “Don’t Give Up On Love” and welcome Brandon and Erro back to SoulTracks!
