(July 31, 2025) From Brooklyn NY, singer/songwriter Bonita Jalane has built quite a resume of work and solid performances over the past 20 years. She’s cleverly combined the classic soul sounds from years gone by with modern contemporary twists.
Her new single, “I Love Myself,”(produced by TYMG) is a powerful affirmation of loving one’s own true being. This soulful hymn starts with the spoken title of the song, followed by Gospel-flavored backing vocals. Bonita gets right to the heart of the matter, as one who started with self-doubt only to discover “the God in me” and “loving me is beautiful…I put that on everything…it’s my responsibility…” Her vocals soar effortlessly without signs of strain or “over-souling.” Then she leads with a call to the listener for a declaration of self-love, taking all to that church inside of them vocally.
The overall vibe of “I Love Myself” is reminiscent of the spiritual soul of forefathers and foremothers such as Earth Wind & Fire and the Emotions. Bonita has a powerful, positive message that needs to be heard by all. Looking forward to this songstress’ new album, Kept Kissing Frogs. This single here is quite princely. Well done. Bonita.
