(September 14, 2026) Incognito wrote several chapters in the acid jazz era that hit its stride in the eighties. Besides these historic achievements encompassing several crossover albums on the U.K Jazz and U.S. R&B charts, Incognito and co-founder Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick are ambassadors in how mixing genres from soul to jazz and beyond have touched fans and critics to this day. That work has also won for Incognito international recognition, including four SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards.
When not in the studio with Incognito, Bluey continues leading the charge as he prepares for his upcoming album aiming to inspire today’s audiences who encouraged him through his artistic journey, despite some recent health challenges. Bluey explains: “Every beat is a celebration of being here, creating, and connecting with people through music.” This current philosophy deeply resonates in his soul while dealing with Parkinsons.
With the assistance of Incognito family member Dominic “Ski” Oakenfull & Mo Hausler (Incognito, Chaka Khan), Bluey unveils a sneak preview of his upcoming full-length release. For our latest First Listen focus, “Skint” (Spash Blue) off his double-sided single that includes “Life is A Dance,” transports Incognito fans to a funk fest of complimentary bouquets gifted to his lifetime lover: “It’s hard times and the goings tough, And all my trials never quite enough, Still I’m happy that you called my bluff, Cause I found me a diamond in the rough.”
Bluey and co-producers Oakenfull & Hausler drive the rhythms that recall Incognito’s hard core older school grooves. Though Bluey’s lead voice is not his strongest suit, the absorbed delivery captures the positive energetic storylines. Take a listen!
