(July 30, 2024) Binky Womack knows the history of soul music because his family made so much of that history. From gospel to doo-wop, blues, soul, rock and even disco, the creative fingerprints of the Womack family can be found there. And that history goes beyond Binky Womack’s legendary father and uncles.
The Womack sisters hit with “Lost for Words,” a track that fused old-school soulfulness and harmonies with contemporary instrumental arrangements. Now Binky Womack, a respected industry veteran with multiple album releases, drops a bit of 1990s funk from his latest album, Womack 100%.
“Look Good To Me” finds Womack paying homage to and attempting to woo a lady who has captured his fancy. The track finds him taking a conversational tone as he makes his case. The woman’s physical beauty has caught his attention, but Womack wants her to know his interest is more than skin deep.
“Look Good To Me” merges the vibe of 1990s West Coast hip-hop with the bass and percussion heavy sound of 1970s and early 80s funk music. Of course, groups like NWA were heavily indebted to groups like Zapp, so fans of the Golden Era of rap, as well of fans of funk music will like what they hear in Binky Womack’s latest.
