Babyface teams with mentee Chloe Flower for gentle Beatles classic

(February 14, 2025) Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds was THE songwriter of the 90s, but he always showed great reverence for the pop music greats of the 1960s and 70s. That love was expressed in his 2007 album Playlist, which featured covers of songs by the likes of James Taylor, Bob Dylan,  Jim Croce and more.

Now, for Valentine’s Day 2025, Babyface joins pianist Chloe Flower, who was discovered by ‘Face back in 2011, for a new version of another 60s gem, The Beatles’ “Yesterday.”

The vivid take on the classic, featuring Flower’s piano and gentle backing by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, is both dramatic and touching. The 65 year old Babyface has lost none of his vocal dexterity, and his emotion-filled tenor blends beautifully with both the soft opening piano and the lush crescendo that follows.

It is unusual to have a Valentine’s Day song that focuses on love lost, but amidst the usual flowers and cards this version of “Yesterday” effectively reminds of the other side of love. Check it out below.
