(March 1, 2020) Folks in the music industry know the name Auteria Wally Winzer Jr. from his massive volume of work in the R&B and jazz worlds over three decades, including support of recordings by artists ranging from El DeBarge to Glenn Jones to Frank McComb.
More recently, the Bay Area multi-instrumentalist has been putting his own name out front, releasing a series of albums and singles, often featuring rising young vocalists.
Auteria’s latest is a ballad that flashes us back to the mid-80s, with largely an electronic underpinning beneath vocalist Steve Fernandes’ strong lead. I could picture hearing this while driving around Detroit, circa 1986, windows open, with WJLB blaring.
“Overnight Sensation” has all those markings, and is a fun release to hear in 2020. Check it out below.
