(August 1, 2024) She won her first dance competition at age 5 at The Star Power National Championship. But it was Asia Monét’s reality series, Raising Asia, that opened up many doors for this versatile talent who demonstrated her natural dance skills on Dance Moms, landed acting gigs including Grey’s Anatomy and hitting the fashion runaway for Target. Yet, Monét thrived further in the R&B/pop market via YouTube, emphasizing motivational messages that drew several million views (“Hey Girl” and “Come Along”), while stretching her musicality covering Billie Eilish, Jasmine Sullivan, and the epic movie anthem “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman.
As part of her music pursuits in 2024, Monét is preparing her self-titled debut release. From this upcoming project, First Listen introduces Monét’s latest single, “Oh Boys,” with thumping bass, smooth guitar and synth backdrop echoing the sounds of 1990s and 2000s pop (think Britney Spears in this instance). This downright personal platform aims for the men who have exhausted her patience level – fueling her readiness to go forward in the name of smart relationship choices: “The next boy on my roster/Sitting over there/Does he know I’m the one/The last one didn’t know/And that’s why I’m gone.”
It is apparent Monét’s musical charisma and genuine investment in the “Oh Boys” storyline matches the mood of someone who is unhesitant towards her romantic future. Check this latest First Listen out.
