(October 2, 2020) The late, great Aretha Franklin still has more gems sitting in the vaults, and one of them hit the street today. “My Kind of Town (Detroit Is)” is a jumping take on the Sinatra classic, but with a twist where Aretha pays tribute to her home town of Detroit, rather than Chicago.
Shouting out some of her musical Detroit friends, from the Miracles to the The Four Tops, Aretha soars over an acoustic jazz band, giving the song a live club feel that reminds us, yet again, of the magic she possessed.
“My Kind of Town (Detroit Is)” is part of the upcoming four disc career retrospective of The Queen, Aretha, that is coming November 20 from Rhino Records.
Check it out below and enjoy this long lost Aretha song with us.
