(October 18, 2023) “Say Yes,” the new song by Apropos, is a song that will leave listeners wanting more. I mean listeners will want to hear more of this tune that says so much both lyrically and musically in a short, but oh so sweet two minutes and five seconds.
Jangling guitars, slashing rock guitars, syncopated hand claps, call and response church choir styled backing vocals and a funky popping bass line stand as a foundation of a man putting out a heart-felt plea for a second chance. Apropos renders this call for forgiveness in a baritone that is raspy and strong but can dig down into the gravel of vulnerability when he needs to really, really beg.
“Say Yes” comes at you fast and strong, but when he has said what he’s had to say the song is gone. And this leaves listeners to ask… Who is this man? Where can I hear more?
Well, Apropos is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has appeared on The Voice and Elton John’s Rocket Hour. He’s collaborated with the likes of Talib Kweli, and (Verse)atility, his 2018 debut album drew praise from Elton John, Kem, Andrew Barber and the late Allee Willis. Check out “Say Yes” here.
