(November 13, 2025) It is not surprising that both the faithful and some who do not profess faith in Christ feel the end of times is near. Every time we conclude that things can’t get worse, things get worse. So, plenty of people are thinking about – and singing about – Christ’s return. Nobody but God knows the time of Christ’s return, but the signs are everywhere, and gospel artists like Angel Sessions are taking their commission to speak to the people seriously.
Sessions delivers the message through her new song, “Heaven,” which is featured in this First Listen. Sessions is described as an Urban Gospel, and “Heaven” has a contemporary hip-hop influenced R&B sound. While the arrangement sounds modern, the message “Heaven” carries is biblical. It references Matthew 24: 37-38, reminding listeners of Jesus’s warning that just like in the days of Noah, people would be distracted by the joys and cares of life, so many won’t see the end coming. “Heaven” is Session admonishment to remain prayerful and watchful.
