(July 20, 2023) Singer Andy Stokes has been steadily growing in importance in the adult soul arena. He shot to the top a few years ago with his “Best Day Ever” single, and he’s continued to issue one solid song after another, to the delight of his emerging fan base.
For his newest single, Andy moves forward by taking a look back with “Turn Back Now” – a reflection on the smash 1972 hit by Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose, “Too Late To Turn Back Now.” Stokes’ uses his slightly raspy tenor voice to good effect on the cover, roughing up the corners of a song that has always had a bright pop sheen to it – thus giving it a legit R&B edge that works well.
Stokes tells us about the cover, “This was my Dad’s favorite song – I wanted to honor him, and I wanted to honor this wonderful piece of R&B history. The groove and lyrics just take you out of your day-to-day grind and get your feet tappin’. It’s a classic!”
