Solid unsigned talent is in so much abundance these internet days, it’s hard to sift through all the sound-alikes to find the truly special. And, there really aren’t any other words to describe Brooklyn singer/songwriter/composer Akie Bermiss but “truly special.” Already a steady fixture on the Big Apple’s music scene, the Bard College trained musician causes a serious eargasm with his amber smooth evening song, “Space & Time,” performed with his trio for Studio 42 in NYC. It’s one we had to share.
Bermiss is in high demand, appearing in several musical configurations. While the Akie Bermiss Trio doesn’t have any commercial products out just yet, Bermiss does have a solo EP available on iTunes that dropped in April of piano ballads. Fans can also stay abreast of his latest gigs and forthcoming projects via his Facebook page. A very special tune, if with a decidedly different crew, deserves special mention. When he’s not fronting his own trio featuring Dan Asher on bass on Andrew Gillespie on drums, Bermiss can be caught on the mic for the jazz funk ‘n’ soul outfit, Aabaraki. Check out their on-the-money live performance of “Funny” at the Rockwood Music Hall right here (and then purchase it right here!).
Until his trio decides to grace us with some serious product for purchase, just lean back and let the Akie Bermiss Trio’s “Space and Time” travel your dreams to another galaxy, if only one of a suddenly very relaxed mind.
