(February 18, 2021) The road may be long for a talented, aspirational musical artist to eventually break through. Surrounded by musicians throughout her childhood, including her father bluesman Bobby BlackHat Walters, Akeylah Simone already knew what she would do when she grew up. So, she started finding an avenue for her aspirations by creating social media outlets entitled Therapy Sessions, where she poured her heart out to family and friends. Those sessions, which fueled concrete teaching moments in perseverance resulted in overwhelming positive feedback – a turning point for Simone to finally realize her dream in launching a recording career.
Simone is now spotlighted on her debut First Listen with the self-released debut single, “Uncertainty,” illustrating the peaks and valleys of following one’s dreams. Keeping it a family affair, her father’s band crafts a heartwarming soundtrack climaxed by an all too brief harmonica solo by BlackHat. Simone’s warm voice amplifies an excellent narrative without the excess vocal tricks to hit all the points reflecting her life story, and frankly, everyone’s life story. While we wait for her first full length, let Simone’s Therapy Sessions on “Uncertainty” begin.
