(September 16, 2017) Maya Angelou was so many things. A dancer, an activist, an actress and toward the end of her life a sage and mentor to so many people. With all of that, it is sometimes easy to forget that Angelou was a poet.
The band Agency did not forget and they put music to Angelou’s peom “Senses of Insecurity” and transformed the work into a fusion of piano and voice. “Senses of Insecurity” is a short and vivid work with strong descriptive words, and the decision to go with a sparse piano and vocal arrangement so that listeners can focus on a compelling marriage of lyric and voice.
